| The Grotta della Monaca, in the municipal district of Sant’Agata di Esaro (province of Cosenza), is one of the most important Calabrian caves. It was well-known for its large size since the nineteenth century and in the last century it was the object of numerous explorations of which historical records remain. The cavity is systematically explored by the speleologists of the Centro Regionale di Speleologia “Enzo dei Medici” since 1997. The Cattedra di Paletnologia of the University of Bari is conducting archaeological excavations, after the important archaeological discoveries carried out inside the cave in the year 2000. |
